Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref S2119 as a Publican's Licence (7-Day Ordinary) for CAPTAIN AMERICA'S COOKHOUSE at GRAFTON COURT, 44 GRAFTON STREET in DUBLIN CITY with CRAWLEY LIMITED as licensee.[1]
Irish Times coverage in 2000 described Captain America's as a Grafton Street institution approaching its 30th birthday.[2] The same report said Mark Kavanagh opened the restaurant in 1971 and sold it in 1993 to a company headed by Paddy McKillen.[2] Irish Times also described the restaurant as a 200-seat first-floor premises with planning permission to add another floor for 150 more customers.[2]
