Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref S0164 as a Publican's Licence (7-Day Ordinary) for MADIGAN'S at HORSE SHOW HOUSE, 34/36 AND PART OF, 32 MERRION ROAD in DUBLIN CITY with JAMES MADIGAN AND SONS as licensee.[1]
The Irish Times reported in 1999 that Horse Show House had been acquired by the Madigan Group in 1966 and occupied a one-third-acre site opposite the RDS on Merrion Road.[2]
An Bord Pleanala's 2016 order granted permission for retention of intermittent use of the existing 746 sq m car park at the side and back of Horse Show House as a beer garden connected with the public house.[3]
The Irish Times reported in 2001 that city planners turned down another Madigan Group plan to demolish the pub and replace it with a five-storey office block with basement car park.[4]
