Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref 1000064 as a Publican's Licence (7-Day Ordinary) for MCNEILLS at 140 CAPEL STREET in DUBLIN CITY with S.T. SCOTT TAVERNS LIMITED as licensee.[1] NIAH records J. McNeill at 140 Capel Street as a terraced two-bay four-storey building built c.1800 with a c.1860 timber shopfront, and its 2011 record says the ground floor had been converted into a pub after trading as a music shop since c.1830.[2] The Irish Times described McNeill's as a Capel Street landmark in 2018 and reported that the sign outside advertised live music and toasted sandwiches during a Dublin City Council debate on A-frame signage.[3]
