Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref N2385 as a Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Theatre for O'REILLY THEATRE / BELVEDERE COLLEGE at 6 GREAT DENMARK STREET in DUBLIN CITY with BELVEDERE COLLEGE as licensee.[1]
The Irish Times reported in 2004 that the O'Reilly Theatre formed part of a Belvedere College development on a former car park and playing field, with the car park moved underground and a sports pitch placed on the roof.[2] The same article said the theatre was a flexible space for assemblies, parent-teacher meetings, school productions and outside bodies, and that its development was hastened by a donation from former pupil Tony O'Reilly.[2] Irish Times culture coverage reviewed Opera Theatre Company's The Beggar's Opera at O'Reilly Theatre, Belvedere College, in 2001.[3] The Abbey Theatre used the O'Reilly Theatre for The Plough and the Stars in 2012 while asbestos works were carried out at the Abbey auditorium.[4]
