Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref 1001412 as a Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Theatre for THE BORD GAIS ENERGY THEATRE at GRAND CANAL HARBOUR in DUBLIN CITY with CROWNWAY ENTERTAINMENT LIMITED as licensee.[1]
The Irish Times reported in 2014 that John and Bernie Gallagher acquired the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin's south Docklands through Crownway Entertainment for about EUR28 million.[2]
The same Irish Times report described the venue as a 2,111-seat theatre designed by Daniel Libeskind and the centrepiece of the urban quarter at Grand Canal Square.[2]
The Irish Times also reported that the theatre was developed and launched in 2010 at a cost of EUR80 million.[2]
In a separate 2014 Irish Times report, Harry Crosbie said the BGE Theatre, formerly the Grand Canal Theatre, had opened in March 2010 and had traded profitably from its first day.[3]
