Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref S3733 as a Publican's Licence (Ordinary) Hotel - BF - 1902 Act (Public Bar) for THE INTERCONTINENTAL DUBLIN at SIMMONSCOURT ROAD AND, MERRION ROAD in DUBLIN CITY with BALLSBRIDGE LEISURE INVESTMENTS LIMITED as licensee.[1]

The Irish Times reported in 1997 that the RDS would lease a 3.3-acre site at the corner of Merrion Road and Simmonscourt Road to Simmonscourt Holdings for a planned Four Seasons hotel, and that the hotel was intended as a 250-bedroom five-star project.[2] In 2001, The Irish Times reviewed the new Four Seasons hotel in Ballsbridge and named the architect as Mike Chun of Wimberley Allison Tong and Goo.[3] The Irish Times reported in 2014 that the Four Seasons hotel in Ballsbridge would become InterContinental Dublin on 2015-01-01, under a long-term franchise agreement between IHG and London & Regional.[4]
