Revenue's renewed-liquor-licence register lists licence ref N0132 as a Publican's Licence (7-Day Ordinary) for CLONTARF CASTLE HOTEL at CASTLE AVENUE, CLONTARF in DUBLIN CITY with CLONTARF CASTLE LIMITED as licensee.[1]
Irish Times travel coverage in 2009 said Clontarf Castle Hotel's seaside location in north Dublin was close to the site associated with Brian Boru's death at the Battle of Clontarf in 1014.[2] The same report said a medieval castle on the site passed to the Vernon family, was demolished after being declared unsafe in the early 19th century, and was replaced by a house commissioned from William Vitruvius Morrison.[2] Irish Times business coverage in 2021 said pretax profits at the four-star hotel fell from EUR3.6m to EUR381,010 during the pandemic year.[3]
